“Try to be as competitive as possible in all Grand Slams, but mostly the Olympics” – Sinner on his goals for 2024
The Italian has started the season by winning 22 of his 23 matches on the tour
Italy’s Jannik Sinner says the Olympics are a big goal for him this season as well as being competitive at all of the four Grand Slams.
The Italian won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open at the start of the season and has been in impeccable form – winning 22 of his 23 matches so far this year and climbing to a career-high ranking of No 2 in the world.
In an interview with Vogue magazine, Sinner, who also played a critical role in Italy’s Davis Cup triumph last year, spoke about his goals for 2024.
“Trying to be as competitive as possible in all Grand Slams, but mostly the Olympics,” Sinner told Vogue.
He added that a shorter-term goal was to become stronger, physically. “We try obviously to get stronger, no? But not, like, big. Because I think my strength is the flexibility I have in my shots.”
If you hate this pressure, it’s the wrong spot for you, no?
As the expectations continue to rise on the young Italian, the first from his country to break into the world’s top two on either the men’s or women’s side, Sinner has embraced the pressure.
“This pressure, you have to take it in a positive way,” Sinner said. “You have to be kind with the pressure. You have to make friendship. If you hate this pressure, it’s the wrong spot for you, no?. The really good and positive thing of tennis is, you have this momentum. The momentum can be positive, happy. And can be negative when you lose. But you live in a momentum. In my mind, everything goes quite fast.”
