Ivashka tops Paul to move into last four at Atlanta
Ilya Ivashka beat Tommy Paul 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 on Friday evening and will face the winner of the match between Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 3 seed, and French lucky loser Adrian Mannarino in the next round
Belarusian Ilya Ivashka defeated American Tommy Paul, the No 5 seed, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the Atlanta Open at the Atlantic Stadion on Friday evening.
Ivashka, ranked No 53, will face the winner of the match between Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 3 seed, and French lucky loser Adrian Mannarino next.
The 28-year-old reaches his fifth 5th ATP semi-final and his fourth on hard courts.
He converted four of six break points and won 10 of 11 service games in the two hour and one minute contest.
Ahead of his victory, the Belarusian won against Frenchman Quentin Halys (6-0, 3-6, 6-3) and edged out American lucky loser Steve Johnson (4-6, 6-2, 6-4).
Paul, ranked No 36, won against wildcard Jack Sock (6-1, 6-1) and SoonWoo Kwon (6-3, 6-3) in the previous rounds.
