Atlanta Open: De Minaur through to final
Alex De Minaur beat Ilya Ivashka 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 on Saturday evening.
Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 3 seed, reached the final of the Atlanta Open by defeating Belarusian Ilya Ivashka 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 at the Atlantic Stadion on Saturday evening.
The 2019 champion seeks his sixth ATP title and first of 2022.
De Minaur has rallied from a set down in consecutive matches as he improves to 8-1 lifetime at Atlanta.
“I just found a way to get through,” De Minaur said. “It wasn’t an ideal start but these things happen. You adapt, you move on and try to do the best that you can.”
Ahead of his victory, De Minaur, ranked No 30, won against James Duckworth (6-4, 6-4) and French lucky loser Adrian Mannarino (4-6, 6-3, 6-0).
Ivashka, ranked No 53, won against Frenchman Quentin Halys (6-0, 3-6, 6-3), American lucky loser Steve Johnson (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) and American Tommy Paul, the No 5 seed (6-2, 3-6, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
