Brooksby topples six-time Atlanta champion Isner to reach semis
Jenson Brooksby edged out John Isner 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday night and will play No 4 seed Frances Tiafoe in the next round
No 6 seed Jenson Brooksby edged out second seed John Isner 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to move into the last 4 of the Atlanta Open at the Atlantic Stadion on Saturday night.
After dropping the opening set Brooksby never faced another break point and managed to break the 37-year-old American’s serve three times, including critically in the seventh game of the final set to take a 4-3 lead.
Isner fired 24 aces to just four for Brooksby but only won 12 of 25 second-serve points.
Brooksby, ranked No 43, will face No 4 seed Frances Tiafoe next.
Brooksby defeated Tiafoe in their lone meeting last year at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C.
Brooksby won against Frenchman Benoit Paire (6-3, 6-1) and Mackenzie McDonald (6-3, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round, Isner, ranked No 25, edged out wildcard Ben Shelton (7-6 (8), 4-6, 7-6 (3)).
