Hurkacz polishes off Kecmanovic in Toronto, Alcaraz could be next

Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 15 seed, reached the last 16 of the Toronto Masters by winning against Serb Miomir Kecmanovic 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 at the Aviva Centre on Wednesday evening.

Hurkacz, ranked No 17, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and American Ben Shelton next.

Hurkacz couldn't break Kecmanovic until 5-7 4-3, then did that four times in a row to win the last nine games of the match. Baseline game went up two gears with fewer errors and more bite on his shots

The Pole beat Kazakh Alexander Bublik (6-3, 7-6 (2)) in the previous round of the Rogers Cup.

During the first round of the Canadian Open, Kecmanovic, ranked No 44, edged out Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin (7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-4).
