American qualifier Marcos Giron beat Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6) to reach the second round of the Toronto Masters at the Aviva Centre on Tuesday evening.

Giron, ranked No 70, will face No 5 seed Holger Rune next.
