Thiem and longtime coach Massu call it quits after four years
Dominic Thiem has amicably parted ways with Nicolas Massu, and thanked the Chilean for his contribution in a heartfelt post on social media.
Dominic Thiem recently won back-to-back matches on tour for the first time this season, and it felt like a new beginning of sorts. Now, the Austrian will encounter another new beginning, as he has announced that he will no longer be working with Nicolas Massu, the man who guided him to his lone Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2022.
Thiem, who began his long, productive pairing with the Chilean in 2019, announced the split on social media on Saturday.
“What an incredible journey,” Thiem wrote on Instagram. “It all started in early 2019 – you came along with your incredible energy and extreme love for the sport. That’s how we won the US Open and Indian Wells. But we also reached the finals of the Australian Open, the French Open, and twice at the Nitto ATP Finals. I think that shows we’re an incredible team.”
“But unfortunately, everything has an end and this end came now,” Thiem continued. “We have decided together that we will go different ways starting next week. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this incredible and beautiful time Nico.
“I wish you only the best and our friendship will last forever.”
Thiem and Ebrahimzadeh for the short term
According to Austrian journalist Lukas Zahrer, coach Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh will work with Thiem next week at Monte-Carlo. He has worked with Angelique Kerber, Cedric-Marcel Stebe and Natalia Vikhlyantseva.
