The Quotes of 2022, Episode 9 – Rublev: “Peace for all”
To end 2022, Tennis Majors offers you a return, in chronological order and in series format, on the striking, inspiring or funny quotes of the year. Episode nine: Andrey Rublev and Ukrainian Denys Molchanov, symbols of peace
It is February 20, four days before the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In this context of extreme tension between the two countries, two men send a strong message: Ukraine’s Denys Molchanov and Russia’s Andrey Rublev, play the doubles together in Marseille.
Winner in singles over Felix-Auger Aliassime, Rublev also won the doubles with Molchanov. “You know, we are normal people,” the Russian replied at a press conference after the title. “We don’t do politics. We play sports. Sport brings people together, even if they each cheer on their team or player. Simple. Peace for all.”
Throughout the season, Fernando Vincente’s protege sent several messages of peace, including signing the cameras.
Like in Turin, at the ATP Finals, after his win over compatriot and good friend Daniil Medvedev.
