Troubled Paire retires through injury in Gstaad, Ymer makes second round
Elias Ymer benefited from the abandonment of Benoit Paire (6-2, 2-0) on Tuesday afternoon. He’ll play No 5 seed Pedro Martinez Portero in the next round
Swede qualifier Elias Ymer moved into the second round of the Swiss Open when Frenchman Benoit Paire retired at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Tuesday afternoon.
Ymer, ranked No 131, led 6-2, 2-0 when Paire, ranked No 92, pulled out at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Tuesday, obviously restricted in his movement.
It follows a difficult few weeks for Paire, in which he has spoken openly about his struggles with his mental health, and in which his ex-girlfriend has hit out at his behaviour during their relationship.
The Swede will face No 5 seed Pedro Martinez Portero next.
