Swiss Open: Varillas advances to second round
Juan Pablo Varillas edged out Dominic Thiem 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4) on Monday afternoon and will play Italian Fabio Fognini, the No 7 seed, in the next round

Peruvian qualifier Juan Pablo Varillas reached the second round of the Swiss Open by edging out Austrian Dominic Thiem 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4) at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Monday.
Varillas, ranked No 162, will play Italian Fabio Fognini, the No 7 seed, next.
