Swiss Open: Thiem ousted in third set tiebreak by Varillas
Juan Pablo Varillas edged out Dominic Thiem 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4) in the first round on Monday

Peruvian qualifier Juan Pablo Varillas reached the second round of the Swiss Open by edging out Austrian Dominic Thiem 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4) at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Monday.
Varillas, ranked No 162, will play Italian Fabio Fognini, the No 7 seed, next.
Thiem, who will be retiring at the end of this season, is looking for his first ATP level win since early April.
