Swiss Open: Thiem reaches quarter-finals

Dominic Thiem won against Federico Delbonis 7-6 (6), 6-3 on Thursday night and will play the winner of the match between Peruvian qualifier Juan Pablo Varillas and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 3 seed, in the next round

Austrian Dominic Thiem beat Argentinian Federico Delbonis 7-6 (6), 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Thursday night.

Thiem, ranked No 274, will face the winner of the match between Peruvian qualifier Juan Pablo Varillas and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 3 seed, next.

The Austrian edged out Frenchman Hugo Gaston, the No 7 seed (1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7)) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Gstaad, Delbonis, ranked No 125, won against Swede Mikael Ymer (6-4, 7-5).
