Swiss Open: Ramos-Vinolas hits back against Varillas to reach last four

Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas edged out Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the last 4 of the Swiss Open at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Friday afternoon.
It was a measure of revenge from their previous meeting, in Lyon in May, when Varillas came from a set down to win 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 to reach the round of 16.
Ramos-Vinolas, ranked No 79, will face Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the second seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the 35-year-old Spaniard won against Italian wildcard Fabio Fognini (6-1, 2-6, 6-2) and edged out Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 3 seed (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
Varillas, ranked No 66, beat Finnish lucky loser Otto Virtanen (6-2, 6-3) and Argentinian qualifier Facundo Bagnis (6-2, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the Gstaad tournament.
