Although Kecmanovic is 35 places higher in the rankings than the Spaniard, it was Ramos-Vinolas who went into their match with the sole win in their previous head-to-head, winning 7-6 (2), 6-3 on hard court in Zhuhai back in 2019.
Earlier in the tournament, the 35-year-old Spaniard won against Italian wildcard Fabio Fognini (6-1, 2-6, 6-2), Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 3 seed (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-4).
Kecmanovic, ranked No 44, defeated Swiss wildcard Dominic Stricker (7-6 (4), 6-1) and edged out Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Gstaad tournament.
