Italian Fabio Fognini, the No 7 seed, defeated French qualifier Titouan Droguet 6-4, 6-3 to reach the second round of the Swiss Open at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Monday.
Fognini, ranked No 80, will face Peruvian qualifier Juan Pablo Varillas next.
