Swiss Open: Cachin wins maiden tour trophy, beats Ramos-Vinolas
Pedro Cachin won the final on Sunday against Albert Ramos-Vinolas
Argentinian Pedro Cachin became the fifth first-time ATP champion of the year as he edged out Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 to lift the Swiss Open trophy at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Sunday.
He now joins Tallon Griekspoor, Yibing Wu, Arthur Fils and Christopher Eubanks in picking up a maiden tour title in 2023.
And his dog Tango joined in the celebrations after match point, licking his master’s face in joy.
Cachin let go of a break advantage in the deciding set but clawed his way back to victory.
“In the beginning of the match I was a little nervous and made a few mistakes. It was the first time I had played against a lefty in the tournament but I stayed there,” he said afterwards.
“I tried to be positive, more aggressive and go to the net. In a final it is difficult to play like this the whole match. I am very, very happy.”
Cachin won four clay-court titles on the Challenger Tour last year, in Madrid, Prague, Todi, and Santo Domingo.
Ramos-Vinolas had won the title in Gstaad back in 2019, and was looking for a fifth tour trophy – all of which would have been on clay.
