Swiss Indoors: Shevchenko takes down Stan Wawrinka in Basel to make second round
Alexander Shevchenko beat Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 7-6 (8) and will play the winner of the match between Taylor Fritz and Max Purcell in the next round

Russian qualifier Alexander Shevchenko reached the second round of the Swiss Indoors by beating Swiss Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 7-6 (8) at the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel.
Shevchenko, ranked No 83, will face the winner of the match between American Taylor Fritz, the No 3 seed, and Australian Max Purcell next.
