Swiss Indoors: Ruud sees off Bublik threat in first round
Casper Ruud defeated Alexander Bublik 7-6 (5), 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon. He’ll play Swiss wildcard Dominic Stricker in the next round
Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed, moved into the second round of the Swiss Indoors by winning against Kazakh Alexander Bublik 7-6 (5), 6-2 at the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel on Wednesday.
After Bublik prevailed at the European Open on the weekend, the Kazakh was unable to back up his third ATP title with a win in Basel, falling to world No 8 Casper Ruud in the first round. Bublik’s first serve was less reliable than it was in Antwerp last week, winning only 80 percent of first serve points and coughing up 12 double faults in the one hour, 48 minute loss.
Ruud, ranked No 8, will play Swiss wildcard Dominic Stricker next.
