Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard won the Swiss Indoors title by defeating American Ben Shelton, the No 6 seed, 6-4, 7-6 (4) at the St. Jakobshalle. in Basel on Sunday.
Mpetshi Perricard, ranked No 50, beat Australian qualifier James Duckworth (7-6 (4), 6-3), Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 8 seed (6-1, 7-6 (6)), Canadian wildcard Denis Shapovalov (6-7 (7), 6-3, 7-6 (3)) and Dane Holger Rune, the No 4 seed (7-6 (6), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Basel tournament, Shelton, ranked No 23, defeated Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry (6-3, 6-4), Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka (7-6 (2), 7-5), Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed (7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-4) and Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 7 seed (6-3, 7-6 (9)).
