Swiss Indoors: Hurkacz improves Turin hopes with quick win over Struff in Basel

Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 4 seed, won against German Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 6-4 to reach the last eight of the Swiss Indoors at the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel on Wednesday afternoon.
It was a fine outing for Hurkacz who continues to end the 2023 season strong, improving his outside chance of qualifying for the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals in Turin next month. The Pole fired down 11 aces and struck 24 winners to just two unforced errors across the course of the one hour, six minute victory in Basel.
Hurkacz, ranked No 11, will play the winner of the match between Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 5 seed, and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor next.
Ahead of his victory, the Pole defeated Serb Dusan Lajovic (7-6 (2), 6-3), while Struff, ranked No 27, beat American Christopher Eubanks (7-6 (7), 6-4) in the previous round of the Basel tournament.
