Swiss Indoors: Humbert starts strong in Basel

Frenchman Ugo Humbert advanced to the second round of the Swiss Indoors by edging out American Marcos Giron 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (3) at the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel on Wednesday afternoon.

Coming into Basel off the back of a maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final in Shanghai, Humbert has continued his strong form by dispatching the world No 57 in two hours, 16 minutes. Both men played clean tennis, with Humbert striking 32 winners to 15 unforced errors, saving four of six break points in the three set win.

Humbert, ranked No 28, will face Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 7 seed, next.
