German Jan-Lennard Struff, the No 7 seed, won against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech 6-4, 7-6 to move into the quarter-finals of the Stuttgart Open at Tennisclub Weissenhof Stuttgart on Thursday.
Struff, ranked No 35, will face American Brandon Nakashima next.
Ahead of his victory, the 34-year-old German beat Italian Flavio Cobolli (7-6 (7), 6-3).
Rinderknech, ranked No 67, defeated American Alex Michelsen (6-4, 7-5) in the previous round of the Stuttgart tournament.
