Stuttgart Open: Murray through to second round

Former world No 1 Andy Murray defeated Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell 6-4, 6-3 to move into the second round of the Stuttgart Open at Tennis Club Weissenhof on Tuesday.

O’Connell, ranked No 116, had won two matches in the qualifying event to reach the main draw but fell short against Murray, who reached the semi-finals in Surbiton last week, where he lost to Denis Kudla

Murray, currently ranked No 68 in the world, could face Kudla again in the second round this week if the American can get past seventh seed Alexander Bublik.
