Australian qualifier James Duckworth reached the second round of the Stuttgart Open by winning against French qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 7-6 (2) at Tennisclub Weissenhof Stuttgart on Tuesday.
Duckworth, ranked No 101, will face second seed Ben Shelton next.
