Stuttgart Open: Berrettini reaches the semi-finals

Italian Matteo Berrettini advanced to the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open by beating Australian qualifier James Duckworth 6-4, 7-5 at Tennisclub Weissenhof Stuttgart on Friday.

Berrettini, ranked No 95, will play the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 5 seed, and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 3 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the Italian edged out Russian Roman Safiullin, the No 8 seed (7-6 (8), 5-7, 7-5) and won against Canadian wildcard Denis Shapovalov (6-4, 6-4).

Duckworth, ranked No 101, won against French qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert (6-4, 7-6 (2)) and American Ben Shelton, the second seed (7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
