Struff dismantles Rune to reach Munich Open final
Jan-Lennard Struff beat Holger Rune 6-2, 6-0 on Saturday and will face American Taylor Fritz, the No 3 seed, for the title
German Jan-Lennard Struff, the No 4 seed, won against Dane Holger Rune, the second seed, 6-2, 6-0 to move into the final of the Munich Open at the MTTC Iphitos complex.
Struff has completed a remarkable day of tennis, as he beat Felix Auger-Aliassime earlier on in their rain-delayed quarter-final before returning to court to dismantle the second-seeded Rune and reach his first final of the year.
Rune was the two-time defending champion in Munich but was comprehensively beaten by the German.
Struff, ranked No 28, will play American Taylor Fritz, the No 3 seed, next.
The 33-year-old German beat Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (7-6, 6-4) and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 5 seed (7-5, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Munich tournament, Rune, ranked No 12, defeated Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-4, 6-2) and Swiss qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler (6-4, 7-6 (3)).
