Wawrinka stuns top seed Rublev to reach semi-finals in Stockholm

Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka continued his outstanding week as he beat Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) to reach the last four of the Stockholm Open at the Kungliga Tennishallen on Friday afternoon.
Wawrinka, ranked No 217, will face American Tommy Paul, the No 4 seed, next. It’s the three-time Grand Slam champion’s first semi-final of an ATP Tour event of the year and at 39, he’s the second-oldest man – after Feliciano Lopez – to beat a top-10 player this century.
Ahead of his victory, the 39-year-old Swiss won against American Brandon Nakashima, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-4) and edged out Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (6-4, 3-6, 7-5).
Rublev, ranked No 7, defeated Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-4, 6-1) in the previous round of the Stockholm tournament.
