Stockholm Open: Qualifier Kotov upsets Kecmanovic to reach final
The Russian will play the winner of the semi-final between Serb Laslo Djere and Frenchman Gael Monfils for the title
Russian qualifier Pavel Kotov advanced to the final of the Stockholm Open by defeating Serb Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 6-4 at the Kungliga Tennishallen on Saturday.
Kotov, ranked No 109 in the world, continued his dream week in Stockholm, which has already included wins over American Christopher Eubanks, the No 7 seed (6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (5)), Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-4, 7-5) and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 3 seed (7-6 (4), 6-2).
The Russian will play the winner of the match between Serb Laslo Djere and Frenchman Gael Monfils for the title on Sunday.
Earlier in the week, Kecmanovic, ranked No 53, beat Swede wildcard Karl Friberg (6-4, 6-2), Dane Holger Rune, the top seed (7-6 (3), 6-2) and Swede wildcard Elias Ymer (6-0, 3-2 ret.).
