World No 1 Jannik Sinner, of Italy, has withdrawn from the Paris Masters due to an intestinal virus contracted before arriving in Paris, as per a statement released from the tournament.

The top seed has been replaced by lucky loser Arthur Cazaux, of France, in the draw.

“It’s a very tough announcement. Obviously I’m not gonna play here in Paris. We came here very early to prepare to the best possible way,” Sinner told the media in Paris. “After the first practice session, I really didn’t felt good. I also talked with the doctor on Sunday, it’s a virus, what makes you feel better in three, four days. Today I feel better already a little bit, but the body is not ready to compete and feel still very, very weak. It doesn’t make sense to go on court and trying to compete for this tournament. (I am) very disappointed because it’s a tournament where I would like to see where my level is at. That was one of my main goals for this week, but unfortunately I cannot make this happen.”

Now at the moment, much more important to see how I feel in the next days, and then hopefully I’m going to be ready for Turin.

Sinner most recently played in Riyadh at the Six Kings Slams earlier this month, where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

The Italian has already secured the year-end world No 1 ranking and his next scheduled appearance is at the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin.

“The most important part is to recover and getting back physically 100 percent. Maybe the next three, four days, I feel better and then I can start again to practice, and of course the main goal is going to be Turin. But, now at the moment, much more important to see how I feel in the next days, and then hopefully I’m going to be ready for Turin.”
