Sinner wins first match back since Australian Open with ease
Jannik Sinner won against Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-3 on Wednesday evening. He’ll play French wildcard Gael Monfils in the next round
Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, advanced to the second round of the Rotterdam Open by defeating Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-3 at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Wednesday evening.
The Italian was playing in his first match since winning his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January. With Sinner having been in red-hot form the past four months, many were curious to see how the 22-year-old responded to getting the Major monkey off his back this year.
It was business as usual for Sinner in Rotterdam, as he dispatched former world No 22 van de Zandschulp in clinical fashion. He looked in as devastating form as ever, plundering 17 winners and breaking van de Zandschulp three times in the one hour, 27 minute match.
Sinner, ranked No 4, will face French wildcard Gael Monfils next.
