Sinner hits career-high No 6 in rankings after victory in Toronto; De Minaur up to new best of 12
The Italian is breathing down the neck of Holger Rune, who also sits at a new career-high at No 5
Italy’s Jannik Sinner received a nice bonus after beating Alex de Minaur to win his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto on Sunday.
When the ATP rankings were updated on Monday, the 21-year-old hit a new career-high of No 6, up two places on the week thanks to his second title of 2023 and eighth in all.
And the new champion is breathing down the neck of Holger Rune, who moved up one place to No 5, also a career-high for the Dane. Rune sits just 65 points ahead of Sinner as the men’s Tour heads to Cincinnati for another Masters 1000 this week.

Casper Ruud slipped two places to seventh, while Andrey Rublev fell one to eighth in the only other change in the top 10, headed by Carlos Alcaraz.
Toronto runner-up Alex de Minaur was the biggest climber of all inside the top 20, the Australian moving up six places to a career-high 12, reward for reaching his first Masters 1000 final.
American Tommy Paul, who beat Alcaraz in Torontio climbed one to 13 while Alejandro Davidovich Fokina shot up 14 places to a new high of No 23 after his brilliant run to the semis.
