Sinner focused on recovery and Miami, not dwelling on the end of winning streak
Jannik Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz in three sets during semi-final action in Indian Wells on Saturday. Sinner will now hope to begin a new winning streak at the upcoming Miami Masters.
Jannik Sinner’s 19-match winning streak came to an end when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday.
However, Sinner was not interested in reflecting on his incredible hot streak — which included a 16-0 record in 2024 prior to Saturday’s result. Instead, in his post-match press conference the world No 3 was intent on looking ahead to the next task at hand: the Miami Open, the second of back-to-back Masters 1000 tournaments.
I’m focused already for Miami.

“I don’t think so much about that,” Sinner said when asked about how proud he was of the winning streak. “Look, I’ve been positive throughout this winning streak — positive even now because I lost in the semis of Indian Wells, which is still a great result.
“Now the next tournament is Miami. So I’m focused already for Miami. For sure it’s tough that it has to end like this here, because for me this is a really special place to play in. But I feel grateful for what I’m doing.”
What Sinner has been doing is nothing short of awesome. Still an amazing 29-2 in his last 31 matches, the Italian’s current stretch includes a Nitto ATP Finals runner-up, the Davis Cup title, the Australian Open title, and the Rotterdam title.
Sinner hopes to be ready for second leg of Sunshine Double
Sinner won’t add to his trophy haul in Indian Wells, but — if healthy — he will try to go one step farther in Miami than he did in 2023 (lost Daniil Medvedev in the final). The 22-year-old struggled a bit physically in the third set against Carlos Alcaraz, stretching out an apparent calf issue on multiple occasions. He also took a fall that seemed to impact his left elbow.
“Hopefully we will see in the next days if physically I will be good for Miami, which is for me personally the most important,” Sinner explained.
“At the moment I feel a little bit everything on my body. But it’s normal; it’s sport. You have to accept this. I had some problems — just small problems, but it was okay throughout until the third set. Then when I fell, I felt a little bit the elbow because I fell over the elbow and I rolled over. So (it) was for me after (that) tough to serve…. I was struggling in the third set.”
