Sinner ends partnership with physio and trainer
The move comes after his team’s involvement with the accidental steroid contamination disclosed earlier this week
According to Corriere Dello Sport, Jannik Sinner has ended his partnership with two key members of his team – physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi and physical trainer Umberto Ferrara. The departures come just days after it was revealed that on-time major champion Jannik Sinner had failed two doping tests back in March for minimal levels of clostebol, but was not disclosed until a tribunal had ruled in Sinner’s favour.
The explanation given by the Italian was that Naldi has suffered a minor finger injury during Indian Wells, had used a spray containing the banned steroid to treat it, and then failed to sufficiently wash his finger before he had massaged the world No 1 that week.
Before the announcement, Jannik Sinner looked in solid form, and capped of a great week of tennis by beating Frances Tiafoe in the final of Cincinnati for his third Masters 1000 title and fifth title of 2024. On Tuesday, Sinner will begin his search for a second major title – at the US Open – vs MacKenzie McDonald, and it will be interesting to follow how the change in team dynamics will affect his level, if at all.
