Sinner, Dimitrov join Alcaraz in Kooyong Classic field
The Kooyong Classic will be held from January 10 to 12 in Melbourne
Italian Jannik Sinner and Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov are the latest players to be confirmed for the Kooyong Classic exhibition event in Melbourne next month.
The two join world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz and local favourite Alex de Minaur in the tournament, which is a lead-up event for the Australian Open Grand Slam.
The tournament will be held from January 10 to 12. Other players in the field include Croatians Marin Cilic and Borna Coric, American Taylor Fritz and Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka.
Sinner, who is 21 years old, ended the season ranked 15th in the world after peaking at No 9 last year. Dimitrov, a former world No 3, is ranked 28th in the world currently.
Alcaraz and Sinner battled in one of the best matches of the season at the US Open in a five-setter quarter-final and fans in Melbourne will be hoping to get a glimpse of their rivalry in Melbourne before the first Grand Slam of the year begins on January 16.
