Shevchenko outlasts Koepfer in first-round epic at Indian Wells

Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko edged out German Dominik Koepfer 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (3) to advance to the second round of the Indian Wells Masters at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Wednesday evening.

Shevchenko, ranked No 51, will play No 22 seed Francisco Cerundolo next.
