Shanghai Masters: 22nd seed Jarry moves into quarter-finals, faces Dimitrov next
The world No 22, from Chile, won against Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 for his 23rd win in his last 32 matches on the tour
Chile’s Nicolas Jarry, the No 22 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Shanghai Masters by defeating Argentinian wildcard Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 at the Qi Zhong Stadium on Wednesday.
Jarry, ranked No 22 in the world, will play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 18 seed, next.
The Chilean won against French qualifier Terence Atmane (7-5, 6-2) and Italian Lorenzo Sonego (7-6 (4), 6-2) ahead of his win today. This is a first ATP Masters level quarter-final for Jarry, and also makes him the top-ranked South American player in the world next week.
Jarry has now won 23 of his last 32 matches on tour since winning his third ATP singles title in Geneva in May.
Earlier in the tournament, Schwartzman, a former top 10 player now ranked No 130, beat Frenchman Luca Van Assche (5-7, 6-3, 6-2), No 27 seed Jiri Lehecka (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) and American Taylor Fritz, the No 7 seed (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5)).
