Shanghai Masters: Djokovic advances to third round
Novak Djokovic defeated Alex Michelsen 7-6 (3), 7-6 (9) on Saturday and will play the winner of the match between Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 28 seed, and Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka in the next round
Serb Novak Djokovic, the No 4 seed, reached the third round of the Shanghai Masters by defeating American Alex Michelsen 7-6 (3), 7-6 (9) at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Saturday.
Djokovic now has 35 match wins in Shanghai as he seeks a fifth title there.
And with team events included, he has now won his past 33 ATP-level matches against American opponents, with his last defeat coming to Sam Querrey at Wimbledon in the 2016 round of 32.
Djokovic, ranked No 4, will face the winner of the match between Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 28 seed, and Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka next.
Michelsen, ranked No 43, won against Chinese Bu Yunchaokete (6-3, 6-4) in the previous round of the Shanghai tournament.
