No 5 seed Brandon Nakashima defeated Denis Kudla 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the San Diego Open at the Barnes Tennis Centre on Thursday night.
Nakashima, ranked No 69, will play Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan next.
Ahead of his victory, Brandon Nakashima won against wildcard Zachary Svajda (7-5, 7-6 (5)).
Kudla, ranked No 104, beat Spanish wildcard Fernando Verdasco (6-3, 6-3).
