Rune ends collaboration with coach Becker
The former world No 1 confirmed the news on social media
Holger Rune has ended his collaboration with coach Boris Becker.
The German wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he would be stepping down as his head coach with immediate effect.
“We started this partnership with the initial goal to reach the ATP Finals end of last year but moving forward I realised that in order for this to be successful, I would need to be available for Holger much more than I can,” he wrote. “Due to professional and private responsibilities, I can’t give Holger what he needs now. I wish him only the very best and I’m always going to be his No 1 fan. I truly appreciated this journey together.”
The two began working together in the autumn of 2023, with a successful trial period resulting in a permanent appointment in November.
It follows the news that Roger Federer’s former coach Severin Luthi also parted ways with Rune in January, announced by Rune’s mother Aneke to Danish media.
The Dane has not yet made a comment on Becker’s departure, but has confirmed that he will now be represented by sports management giants IMG.
Rune leads the field at UTS Oslo this week.
