Hurkacz outlasts Rublev in nail-biting Rotterdam quarter-final
Hubert Hurkacz edged out Andrey Rublev 6-7 in three sets during quarter-final competition on Friday and will play top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the next round.
Hubert Hurkacz, the No 8 seed, edged out Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 4 seed, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the last four of the ABN AMRO Open at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Friday night.
For the match, Hurkacz hit 40 winners and 35 unforced errors, with Rublev striking 30 winners and 40 unforced errors.
Hurkacz, ranked No 21, will face top seed Carlos Alcaraz next.
The Pole defeated Italian Flavio Cobolli (6-3, 6-2) and Jiri Lehecka (7-5, 2-0 ret.) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of this Rotterdam event, Rublev, ranked No 10, beat China’s Zhizhen Zhang (6-3, 6-4) and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (7-6 (2), 7-6 (7)).
