Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, advanced to the last eight of the Rotterdam Open by winning against Italian qualifier Andrea Vavassori 6-2, 6-1 at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Thursday evening.

For the match, Alcaraz hit 17 winners to 13 unforced errors, compared to his opponent’s nine winners to 27 unforced errors.

After the match, the four-time Grand Slam champion said:

“Today it was much better. I mean, every time that I leave the court I think about how I can be better and that’s what happened after the first round. I tried to be focused on the things that I had to improve from the first round. Not making so many mistakes, not being so up-and-down, when I’m a break up just keep going with the same intensity.”

“Everything that I did today was pretty good, after these kinds of matches the confidence goes up.”

Alcaraz, ranked No 3, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero and Dane Holger Rune, the No 5 seed, next.

The 21-year-old Spaniard defeated Dutch wildcard Botic van de Zandschulp (7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-1) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Rotterdam tournament, Vavassori, ranked No 317, benefited from the abandonment of Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (6-7 (3), 6-4).
