Rome Masters: Tsitsipas takes out home favourite Sonego, makes last 16

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 5 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Rome Masters by defeating Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-3, 7-6 (3) at the Foro Italico on Tuesday.

Tsitsipas, ranked No 5, will face the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 18 seed, and American Frances Tiafoe, the No 12 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Italian Open, the Greek won against Portuguese Nuno Borges (6-3, 6-3).

Sonego, ranked No 48, beat Frenchman Jeremy Chardy (6-2, 6-1) and Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, the No 25 seed (7-5, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Italian Open.
