Rome Masters: Monteiro makes third round

Brazilian qualifier Thiago Monteiro beat Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 32 seed, 6-1, 6-3 to move into the third round of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico in Rome on Friday.

Monteiro, ranked No 106, will play the winner of the match between Serb Miomir Kecmanovic and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 5 seed, next.

The Brazilian won against Frenchman Gael Monfils (6-2, 7-5) in the previous round of the Italian Open.
