German Yannick Hanfmann beat Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-2 to reach the second round of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico in Roma on Wednesday.
Hanfmann, ranked No 59, will play No 29 seed Alejandro Tabilo next.
