Rome Masters: Hanfmann’s run continues, reaches last 16
Yannick Hanfmann won against Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Monday and will face the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed, and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 27 seed, in the next round
German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann advanced to the last 16 of the Rome Masters by defeating Italian Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at the Foro Italico on Monday.
Hanfmann, ranked No 101, will play the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed, and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 27 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the German won against Chilean Nicolas Jarry (6-4, 6-4) and American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed (6-4, 6-1).
Cecchinato, ranked No 83, beat American Mackenzie McDonald (6-3, 7-5) and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 21 seed (6-2, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Italian Open.
