Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 8 seed, beat French qualifier Terence Atmane 7-6 (3), 6-3 to reach the last 16 of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico in Roma on Sunday.
Dimitrov, ranked No 10, will face No 11 seed Taylor Fritz next.
In the previous round of the Italian Open, the Bulgarian won against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (7-5, 6-4).
Atmane, ranked No 137, defeated American Christopher Eubanks (6-4, 6-4) and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 26 seed (7-5, 1-0 ret.) earlier in the tournament.
