Shanghai Masters: Munar downs Gaston to make second round

Spaniard Jaume Munar defeated Frenchman Hugo Gaston 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round of the Shanghai Masters at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Thursday.

Munar and Gaston fought for more than 100 minutes, exchanging a total of seven break points, with the former securing five.

Gaston fared better on winners, hitting 24 against the Spaniard’s 20, however, he sprayed 45 unforced errors, giving Munar the edge.

Munar, ranked No 62, will face No 33 seed Jiri Lehecka next.
