Carlos Alcaraz on the most important lesson he’s learnt so far – “I can’t make everyone happy”
Carlos Alcaraz has been asked to think about the most important things he has learnt from tennis so far
Carlos Alcaraz has arrived in Shanghai ahead of his campaign at the Masters, and has had time to reflect on his semi-final defeat in Beijing to Jannik Sinner.
He’s also had a think about the most important things that tennis has taught him so far, concluding: “I cannot make everyone happy. I just have to be focused on myself, on being myself all the time. You know, don’t pretend to make everyone happy. It’s impossible. I’m going to say that, just to be focused on myself, being myself all the time, and that’s everything for me.”
Alcaraz: I’m not surprised Sinner won in Beijing
As for Sinner – who broke a six-match losing streak against Daniil Medvedev to win the China Open title – the world No 2 had plenty of praise for him.
“I wasn’t surprised at all. I know the capacity of Jannik. I know his level. He’s one of the best in the world right now and he can beat anyone. I’m not surprised about the final.
“I know that he lost six times in a row against Daniil, you know, but sometimes you can be a better player because of that, you know, to study, you know, the opponent game and what he did wrong in the previous matches to be better and to be able to beat him this time.
“So really happy for him, but honestly, I expect[ed] him to win, honestly, because the level that he was playing was unbelievable.”
