Alcaraz headlines strong field as Shanghai Masters returns for first time since 2019
Novak Djokovic is the only big name missing as he skips the Asian swing
Carlos Alcaraz will headline a strong field this week at the Shanghai Masters as the Chinese Masters 1000 event takes place for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic.
The Spaniard took some time off following his US Open semi-final exit and has looked strong on his return in Beijing this past week.
Alcaraz is the top seed in the absence of Novak Djokovic, with the world No 1 missing the Asian swing as he prepares himself for the Paris Masters, ATP Finals and Davis Cup Finals.
After a bye in round one, Alcaraz will play Nuno Borges or Gregoire Barrere, with Karen Khachanov and Taylor Fritz in his quarter. Stefanos Tsitsipas or Andrey Rublev could be his semi-final opponent.
Medvedev in stacked bottom half of draw
Daniil Medvedev is the No 2 seed but he might have his work cut out to reach the final after the draw saw a host of top players placed alongside him.
The Russian is in the same half as Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton and Alex de Minaur.
Medvedev begins with a bye, before taking on Cristian Garin or a qualifier in the first round.
