22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal is reportedly a go for this year’s Paris Masters and the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, according to his coach Carlos Moya, per Spanish TV.

According to Moya, in comments translated by Eurosport, Nadal has been training well in Mallorca, and will be ready for next week’s Paris Masters, which begin on October 31, before turning his vision to the ATP Finals in Turin.

“Before arriving in Turin, you have to play matches in Paris, which are similar,” Moya told television station IB3.

World No. 2 Nadal has been training in Mallorca since the US Open, where he lost in the round of 16 to American Frances Tiafoe. He has not competed in singles since that defeat, but did take the court at Roger Federer’s farewell in London, pairing with the Swiss legend in doubles.

Since then, Nadal and his wife have welcomed the couple’s first child.

Moya on Nadal – “He is competitive anywhere”

Paris is one of the two Masters 1000 events that Nadal has not previously won, along with Miami.

Nadal is 22-6 lifetime in Bercy, with a final (2007, loss to Nalbandian) and four additional semi-finals to his name at the event.

“He has not been able to win it, but he has achieved good results and has come close to doing so on several occasions,” Moya confidently explained in the interview. “We always have hope and illusion, because Rafael is competitive anywhere.”

Nadal will have to remain healthy to carry out the plan. 2022 has been an extraordinary year results-wise for the Spaniard, as he has won two major titles. But the success has taken a toll on his body. He has struggled with injuries to his ribs, feet and abdominal muscles.

Nadal has a chance to finish as year-end No. 1 depending on results over the next few weeks. He is 920 points behind Carlos Alcaraz, but only 695 points behind the top-ranked teenager in the Race to Turin.
